NICOYA’S BIO
Nicoya is a 12 year old red and white Siberian Husky. He has the personality that if he was pulling a sled, he would be the lead dog. He has been the champion of good health all his life—no injuries or illnesses to keep him down. No special visits to the vet outside of his checkups. I believe it is all due to his self prescribed the “Nicoya Cleanse”. Since his days as a pup, he has imposed upon himself a day of fasting. When he was younger he might have done this once every few months and as he aged it changed to once a month but with getting even older, he now may cleanse every few weeks. The “Nicoya Cleanse” is to skip breakfast of his regular food, eat some grass and then cleanse his system with only water throughout the day. By dinner time he is typically back on his regular food program.

He is independent, confident, a serious thinker, calm in his movements–all with precision, efficiency and a purpose, a runner, and he has many of the typical husky traits you read about in dog books except for being a jumper of fences. He became obedient after years of training, he still will pull on the leash if he thinks he needs to be truly out in the lead—a jogger running by or another dog on a leash passing in the opposite direction. He has a look of being intense with one blue eye and one brown eye against his white mask. His ‘look’ is and can be intimidating to young children and other dogs…and to humans not fond of dogs. He is very gentle with people and not so intimidating when kids think he is one of the twin red “snow dogs” from the Disney movie. We have heard many a child shout across the street on our walks, “IT’S A SNOW DOG!”
He has a really cool howl voice that he uses only as needed…vocalizing with Winnie or answering to my voice on the phone’s recorded message. Often times it his howling that tells me that the phone is ringing when I am working in the yard. He entertains himself by chasing the squirrels running along the top of the fence in the backyard. He has no desire to catch the rodent, just let him know who is in charge and not to cross into his space.
Nicoya is in the role of alpha in this home’s dog pack.
